Frequently Asked Questions
If there is anything that you would like to see added to this page then please contact us.
Do you offer legal aid?
We do not accept legal aid work as there is very little legal aid available these days and only for limited areas of law.
How much will it cost me?
It depends on the complexity of your case and no two cases are ever alike. As with all solicitors we charge an hourly rate, which is broken up into 10 “units”. When we agree to take on your case, you receive a full explanation of our terms and conditions. You will also be given estimate of how much we think your case is likely to cost you considering the information we have at the time.
How can I pay my legal costs if I am not working or am having difficulties?
Legal expenses cover is included in most home contents insurance policies for some civil disputes or employment matters, so it is worth checking your policy to see if your insurance company will pay the expenses. If you are unsure, we can assist you in finding out what cover you are entitled to. In some cases, particularly with regards to settlement agreements with an employer, your employer will usually allocate a sum of money for legal costs.
Will you tell me if I haven’t got a case?
We will be honest with you about your prospects, including if we feel that your position is not strong enough to bring a claim. However, the decision always rests with the client and whilst we can advise you against a claim, it is your choice as to whether or not you pursue it.
We will not enter into any discussions with your employer until you instruct us to do so. You have no obligation to notify your employer that you have sought legal advice. If your employer is made aware of our involvement in your matter, they are not allowed to take any action against you or threaten your employment as a result.
Will my spouse/partner know that I have visited you and what can they do if they find out?
We will not enter into any discussions with your spouse or partner until you instruct us to do so. You have no obligation to notify them that you have sought legal advice. All discussions with us highly confidential.
